EDELRID takes over Monkee

EDELRID took over the climbing wear brand Monkee at the start of March 2015. The Franconian company’s sustainable philosophy and fashionable product range led to EDELRID’s interest in the purchase. The brand was established in 2008 and a part of its design and development team have been kept on.

Sustainable synergies

For many years, EDELRID has been passionately committed to environmental protec-tion and sustainable business practices. It was the first rope brand on the market to have its entire climbing rope collection bluesign® certified. The Allgäu-based mountain sports brand has long-since been committed to sustainable production at its site in Isny – not just of climbing ropes but also of via ferrata sets, ice axes, crampons and several work safety products. EDELRID is committed to innovative mountain sports products and ‘Made in Germany’ quality. It was on the basis of these values that the decision was made to take over Monkee.

Monkee is a sustainable climbing wear brand whose products are mainly aimed at boulderers and sport climbers. The monkey on the logo represents freedom of movement in all respects, both physically and mentally, and symbolises the Monkee philosophy: being in touch with nature, never standing still and always remaining open to inspiration. Monkee products are all made from sustainable materials and produced in Europe. Monkee is also a member of the Fair Wear Foundation.

As a result of the takeover, the EDELRID clothing collection will be expanded and include new concepts and designs. The ideas and sustainable principles behind the label with the monkey will also live on under the umbrella of EDELRID.

First collection already in 2016

Behind the scenes, the integration of the Monkee styles into the EDELRID collection is going full speed ahead. By expanding the clothing line, EDELRID will appeal to a broader target group of people looking for functional styles for vertical activities as well as climbing-inspired fashion for everyday wear.

The young, progressive design using practical, functional cuts will already be exhibited at the Outdoor trade fair in Friedrichshafen this summer.
