Easily manage your RFID equipped PSA equipment
The requirements for users of and rental organisations offering PPE (Personal Protective Equipment/Personal Fall Protection) are becoming increasingly complex. For the commercial sector, there are clear regulations for using and maintaining PPE. All equipment has to be regularly inspected and its use documented. This can be costly and take up considerable amounts of time. Any organisation that makes PPE available (whether in return for payment or free of charge) is responsible for ensuring that the equipment is in a perfect condition. This poses a major challenge for climbing gyms, adventure parks, high ropes courses, training centres, fire brigades and maintenance companies among others.
This is why EDELRID developed a unique new concept. It's a combination of training, documentation and user app. Our Gear Pilot app covers three main areas. It's a comprehensive tool to register, manage and inspect PPE products. The EDELRID Gear Pilot will save you time and money, but also bring additional transparency to your processes.
For use in the rental sector, the Gear Pilot allows quick and effective management of PPE products. Products are individually entered using an RFID scanner (available from specialist retailers) to scan their serial numbers. For equipment without RFID-technology, we can retrofit different RFID transponders to your equipment.
You already have a checkout system or access system with RFID? No problem – our app is highly flexible. Our transponders are compatible with all RFID systems (860 – 960MHz).
The Gear Pilot app makes it possible to produce comprehensive reports, for example regarding use cycles or the status of a particular product. There is an alarm function to announce the next PPE inspection. And the app simultaneously provides a list of all certified PPE inspection centres near you.
The Gear Pilot's PPE area is activated once the user has successfully completed EDELRID DGUV 312-906 training. Here, the user is taken step-by-step through the inspection instructions. You receive instructions and guidelines for visual inspections, functional inspections and details of smaller repair measures. You can carry out PPE inspections and generate product data sheets and inspection records. All information is centrally stored and can be accessed anywhere, anytime.
The Know How area provides all important information about PPE products. From labelling to standards and inspections, there are detailed answers to all questions.
As a manufacturer of PPE equipment, we are aware of our responsibility. With the Gear Pilot, we want to make users' lives easier and the PPE sector safer.
The GEAR PILOT is available in the App Store or can be downloaded for use with your smart phone (iOS, Android), tablet or PC. It is compatible with common web browsers. Product registration is done either using a RFID scanner (available as accessory with qualified dealers), the serial number or single identi- fication. For use with the RFID technology, EDELRID offers different transponders for subsequent fitting. Data is stored in a central database and can be retrieved iat any time and in any time. In addition, the Excel interface allows for a fast data import and export.
For non-contact data transmission technology, the RFID is based on electromagnetic waves, which ensures a fast transfer of unique serial numbers. The transponder design has been specially adapted to PSA products and passive UHF transponders that do not require their own power source are activated by the scanner.
The UHF frequency range is 860-960 MHz. Digital readability saves time and money, extends the life of PSA products and significantly reduces the human error chain. In addition, the RFID is optimally applicable with the EDELRID GearPilot.

Since 2014, EDELRID offers two-day trainings for the inspection of personal protective equipment at our company location in Isny. Participants are trained to become competent persons for PPE against falls. In addition to the standardised contents of the DGUV 312-906 the training also comprises the focus on PPE in sports and leisure. During the training, participants learn all necessary knowledge on work safety and accident prevention regulations as well as on the regulations of the insurer. The comprehensive knowledge on materials and products is deepened in the EDELRID laboratory using practical examples.
